Numbers To Live By
Planning for Success
With 2009 just around the corner, now's a good time to spend a little quality time with your brand. We thought we'd share a few numbers with you that may influence your planning efforts. Enjoy, and a Merry Christmas and a peaceful and relaxing Holiday Season to you and yours.
Sad, but true. 55% of new businesses fail within five years. Top reasons: Flawed business planning, products/brands that don't thrill customers, and poor cash flow management.

Remember, it's 55...so stay alive!

Zooom! About 7 seconds. That's how long it takes for the average grocery shopper to make a purchase decision. Make sure your brand is priced right, and has good shelf position.
In a recent survey, 73% of consumers said that packaging was the number one reason they bought a product. Make sure your brand gets their attention!
On average, 20% of a brand's volume is new trial while 80% is repeat business. For success, get as many consumers into your brand as posssible. Always work on trial...no matter what stage of your brand development. Demos are a very cost effective tool! According to Progressive Grocer magazine you can expect a 263% increase in sales when your brand is on-sale at a reduced price. Sales lift is +420% when feature pricing is combined with an in-store display. These are big numbers, so discount appropriately and promote frequently!
You need to be quick. PIMS data indicate that initial entrants can expect a 31% market share. Number four? 12%. The lesson here: Innovate, don't procrastinate.

Best wishes for success in 2009!
